From nutritionist to coach 

There are a few things you need to know about the differences between coaching and nutritional consulting. 

Do you know whether your nutrition business operates from the consulting or coaching framework?

Here’s a hint. 

If you’re creating lifelong clients, there’s a good chance you’re operating from a consulting framework. 

I know what you’re thinking. “But Stephanie- isn’t having a lifelong client a good thing?”

If you’re in the business of creating clients dependent on you for finding the answers, then yes. But if you’re looking to create a business where your clients become the expert and learn to coach themselves, you will need to operate as a coach, not a consultant.  

Why? 

We all know the answer to this question – it’s never just about the food. 

From Nutritionist to Coach

Becoming a coach allows you to go deeper with your clients and find the root cause, leading to sustainable change. You’ll instill self-agency in your clients, releasing you of the expectation that you’re responsible for their results. 

On the other hand, nutritionists are often behaviour driven, which leads to surface change. Most nutritionists are taught to rely on step-by-step programs with treatment protocols and meal plans. 

If you’re frustrated with the results in your clients, another meal plan isn’t the answer. Learning to coach is. 

From Nutritionist to Coach: Intellectualizing vs. Embodying 

When you learn the coaching framework, you must live it for yourself before you coach others.  

In doing so, having the skill to coach yourself will lead to making confident decisions in your business.
